Ministry of Transport - Madsen increases pressure on the railroad

Whether delays or train cancellations - in recent weeks, Deutsche Bahn has repeatedly encountered problems on the central network in Schleswig-Holstein. Now Transport Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen (CDU) wants to increase the pressure on the railroad, as the ministry in Kiel announced.

The Minister will meet with the Chairman of the Northern Regional Management at DB Regio, Torsten Reh, on Thursday. The talks are also expected to focus on the fines that the railroads will have to pay due to the ongoing problems.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the routes between Kiel and Hamburg and Hamburg and Flensburg were particularly affected in October and November. In those months, for example, just 37 percent of trains between Kiel and Hamburg were on time.

The passenger association also criticized the poor punctuality between Flensburg, Kiel and Hamburg. There was a considerable lack of capacity, the association said. "DB Regio Schleswig-Holstein must take further measures to significantly improve punctuality on the RE lines 7 and 70," emphasized Jan Niemeyer, board member of the passenger association in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg.

The association also demanded that regional trains ready to depart on time from the Hamburg main station hub be prioritized over long-distance trains terminating in Hamburg-Altona. Otherwise, there would be repeated delays that could not be made up.
