Macron initiates festivities commemorating the 80th year of D-Day.

The President stressed the significance of the Breton resistance and SAS paratroopers, who arrived from England and various areas of France as well as Oceania. They teamed up to prevent the German enhancement troops from advancing, added Macron. Along with Colonel Achille Muller, the remaining French paratrooper involved in the mission, the French leader placed a wreath commemorating their role.

The festivities will continue until Friday. On Thursday, several government and state officials will join the worldwide tributaries event, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and US President Joe Biden, who arrived in France on Wednesday. Prior to his arrival, numerous veterans from the USA, Canada, and UK had already landed in Normandy, reminding visitors of their past contributions. Macron hailed these "heroes" in the online service "X" while they were in France.

Biden was met at the Orly airport by the French government official, Gabriel Attal. The US President will journey to the Normandy on Thursday. A bilateral meeting with Macron in Paris is scheduled for Saturday. Biden's inaugural visit to France is set to last through Sunday.
