- Luther Paths in Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg are united
The Luther Paths in Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg are merging. On September 23rd, a fresh portion of the trail will be unveiled close to Bad Schmiedeberg in Saxony-Anhalt, linking the existing Luther Path in Brandenburg to the German Luther Path system. "It's bloody brilliant to witness the Luther Path still thriving and expanding past the Reformation decade's end," expressed the President of the German Luther Path Society, Ekkehard Steinhaüser.
This new stretch spans 80 kilometers, commencing from Kemberg, traversing the Düben Heath, and concluding at the spa town of Bad Schmiedeberg. It crosses the Elbe at Pretzsch, meanders along the Annaburg Heath, and lastly, skirts the Black Elster's floodplain landscape near Herzberg in Brandenburg. Notable stamping spots on the new leg include Reinharz Water Castle, Bad Schmiedeberg City Church, Axien Book Church, St. Mary's Church in Prettin, Annaburg Castle, and St. Mary's Church in Herzberg.
The Luther Path is a joint initiative comprising churches, tourism boards, municipalities, and other partners. It first saw daylight in 2008. Other sections of the Luther Path can be discovered in Bavaria, Brandenburg, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony, and Thuringia.
The Commission, recognizing the significance of this expansion, shall adopt a decision to officially incorporate the newly merged Luther Path in Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg into the German Luther Path system. Following the unveiling of the new stretch, interested hikers can now explore prominent stamping spots like Reinharz Water Castle in Brandenburg, as part of their Luther Path journey.
