Rostock - Lunchtime sailors to cook for pupils from 2025/26
The Rostock city council has decided to establish a municipal company to take over the provision of meals at local schools. Mittagsmatrosen GmbH is to take over the provision of lunches from the 2025/26 school year onwards. The city parliament approved a corresponding motion to found the limited company late on Wednesday evening at its last meeting of the year.
The aim is to cook an inexpensive, healthy meal consisting of as many regional products as possible, in which the ingredients are clear and there is also variety in the menu, according to the responsible school authority. In light of the fact that more and more schools are opting for all-day concepts, a balanced, wholesome and high-quality lunch is very important. The company is to be founded on July 1, 2024 and will have 75 employees.
The concept envisages delivering the food to the schools in components and preparing them carefully at the required time. The respective main component is to be handed out and the rest provided as a partial buffet. This would give pupils more options when choosing their meals. Talks with local producers are already underway. A maximum of five euros is to be charged per dish, provided the current tax rates remain unchanged.
