Chevrolet's Sports Car: The Corvette - Ludwigshafen am Rhein sets sail toward the Mediterranean.
The 90-meter-long corvette "Ludwigshafen am Rhein" is set to leave its base in Warnemünde this Saturday (13:00) for a five-month-long UN mission in the Mediterranean. It will join the UNIFIL fleet off the coast of Lebanon, making it the latest addition to the forces already present there, which include Turkey, Greece, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. The "Ludwigshafen am Rhein" is expected to return to Warnemünde in December.
The ship and its crew of around 60 soldiers and sailors will primarily be involved in maritime surveillance activities. Additionally, they're set to assist in the training of the Lebanese Navy. With tensions between Hezbollah and Israel reaching a new high, the UNIFIL mission monitoring the area is of enormous political significance and necessitates thorough preparation. Among other things, that's why the commander of the 1st Corvette Squadron, Marc Tippner, has underlined its necessity. The "Ludwigshafen am Rhein" was launched in 2013 as part of the Braunschweig class.
