- Ludwig participates in the German championship as part of his farewell tour.
Beach volleyball ace Laura Ludwig is one step away from bagging her 8th German championship title after her previous court outing. Teaming up with Louisa Lippmann from HSV, the Rio Olympics victor conquered their semifinal on Centre Court in Timmendorfer Strand 2-0 (22:20, 21:13), triumphing over Karla Borger and Lea Sophie Kunst. Laura's final showdown will be against the defending champions Svenja Müller from Hamburg and Cinja Tillmann from Düsseldorf this Sunday (3:00 PM). In their initial clash, the European champions emerged victorious, downing Sandra Ittlinger/Kim van de Velde 2-0 (22:20, 21:14), however, they let slip an 11-8 edge in the first set and had to repel a set point later on.
On the men's side, Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler are pushing towards a potential third successive title. The Olympic silver medalists secured their 2-0 victory (21:17, 21:14) against Yannik Ahr/Luis Henrichs in the best eight-team round and will square off against Jonathan Erdmann/Nejc Zemljak in the semifinal on Sunday (11:00 AM). In the following match, Philipp Konstantin Huster/Lui Wüst will face off against Max Just/Robin Sowa in a Hamburg derby.
Laura Ludwig is set to claim her 8th Championship title in beach volleyball, following her recent 2-0 semifinal victory. Regardless, the defending champions Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann will present a challenge in the final, having previously won their semifinal match.
