Following her retirement from her professional career, iconic beach volleyball champion Laura Ludwig is eager to maintain her connection with the sport. "I'll do whatever it takes to keep contributing to beach volleyball and keep the sport alive," the 38-year-old expressed, days prior to the Elite tournament Beach Pro Tour in her beloved hometown of Hamburg. "I'd like to share my knowledge and put my enthusiasm into it."
After a premature elimination with partner Louisa Lippmann at the Paris Olympics, Ludwig announced her retirement at the season's end. The elite tournament in Hamburg, from Thursday to Sunday, will mark her final appearance on the international stage. A week later, she'll team up with Lippmann once more for their swan song at the German Championships in Timmendorf.
"It's the perfect time," she stressed in Hamburg. "It's been an incredible 20 years of living and loving the game, and I'll continue to love it." Her ambition remains undeterred. "We're going to stir up some excitement on the court one last time," Ludwig pledged. "These are our final two tournaments together. We want to savor them, not just stand there on the court."
