3rd league - Lübeck's interim coach with focus on defense
Following the departure of coach Lukas Pfeiffer from VfB Lübeck, interim coach Bastian Reinhardt wants to make some changes at the third division club. "I clearly sensed during training that everyone knows what the time has come," said Reinhardt on Tuesday. "Of course we will change things," said the former HSV professional with a view to the defense. The defense has been VfB's biggest problem child so far. "I believe that we must succeed in unleashing even more energy there, especially in the defensive area."
The club is 17th in the table after 18 matchdays. "For us, the places above the bottom line are not that far away and it's about keeping in touch if possible," said VfB sporting director Sebastian Harms. They are still 100 percent convinced that they have enough potential to stay in the league. The Hanseatic side are four points behind 16th in the table.
The new head coach should have "a very strong leadership personality" and "a few years of experience at this level", said Harms. Reinhardt, who previously worked as assistant coach at VfB, will be in charge of the team in the last two games before the winter break.
For the upcoming matches, the 48-year-old Reinhardt called for "more commitment and also sharpness". VfB will face Rot-Weiss Essen on Friday (7.00 pm/Magenta Sport) at Hafenstraße. "Of course, that's one of the highlight games in the third division," said Reinhardt. "We want to make it a highlight game for us."
