Examination - Lübeck and Timmendorfer Strand want to keep Bäderbahn
The municipality of Timmendorfer Strand and the Hanseatic city of Lübeck are fighting against the end of the Bäderbahn between Lübeck and Neustadt in the district of Ostholstein. The two municipalities have commissioned Hamburg administrative law expert Ulrich Ramsauer to examine the reasons given by the railroad and the state for the rejection. They intend to present the result of this examination on Tuesday (3 p.m.) in Timmendorfer Strand. According to current plans, the Bäderbahn is to be shut down at the latest when the new rail link to the Baltic Sea tunnel opens.
According to the municipality of Timmendorfer Strand, the expert opinion comes to the conclusion that planning the new rail route without the Bäderbahn would take considerably longer than with the Bäderbahn. The reason for this is the serious takeover interest of the railroad company RDC Deutschland. Among other things, RDC operates the blue car train to Sylt.
The passenger association Pro Bahn also expects the process to take longer, according to its press spokesman Karl-Peter Naumann. The Federal Railway Authority would first have to examine this offer before deciding whether to close the line. This would significantly delay the decision on decommissioning, said Naumann.
