- Lower number of building permits in Saxony-Anhalt

The number of building permits in Saxony-Anhalt has decreased again in the first half of 2024, particularly for residential buildings. Overall, authorities approved 10.8 percent fewer construction projects than in the previous year, according to the Statistical Office of Saxony-Anhalt in Halle. In the residential sector, the number of permits fell by 16.7 percent.

In total, 1,462 construction projects were approved in the first six months of the year, with 1,073 of these being residential buildings - the rest were for various other types of buildings. In this so-called non-residential sector, the number of building permits increased by 10.8 percent.

The cost of building construction is expected to be approximately 726.9 billion euros; 315.0 billion euros of this will be for residential buildings. Consequently, the total construction volume has risen slightly by 1.7 percent, remaining roughly at the level of the previous year, according to statistics.

Last year, the number of building permits in Saxony-Anhalt had decreased by nearly a third. The German Association of Medium-Sized Real Estate Companies (BFW) cited expensive building materials and economic uncertainties as reasons for this decline.

The decrease in residential building permits in Saxony-Anhalt affects the housing market significantly. Despite this, the cost of building residential buildings is projected to reach a substantial 315.0 billion euros.
