Low order intake in mechanical engineering

Business is slow in Baden-Württemberg's machine tool industry: In the first half of the year, orders were significantly down, but now hopes are pinned on the second half of the year.

The order drought in Baden-Württemberg's machine-building sector continues. In the first half of the year, orders were down 13 percent compared to the previous year, according to the industry association VDMA Baden-Württemberg. This is a "clear dampener," said State Manager Dietrich Birk. However, the decline in the second quarter was less at 6 percent compared to the first.

"We hope that we have reached the bottom," says Birk. "Whether the second half of the year will bring the hoped-for improvement and necessary growth impulses remains to be seen."

Despite the decline, the manufacturing sector in machine-building, specifically in Baden-Württemberg, is hoping for an improvement in the second half of the year. This anticipated improvement could potentially provide the required growth stimuli.
