Loud frustration with Hertha's Niederlechner: "Sh..." Video evidence

Florian Niederlechner had to wait a long time for a goal at Hertha BSC. Then things went well for the striker. But in the last game of the year, he sees red. He expresses his anger in drastic words.

2nd league - Loud frustration with Hertha's Niederlechner: "Sh..." Video evidence

Only the prospect of the upcoming Christmas party with his colleagues could calm Florian Niederlechner down a little. The first direct red card of his long career had really upset the 33-year-old Hertha BSC attacking player. He had to tell everyone about the injustice he had experienced. "Another reason that nobody needs the sh... needs it," Niederlechner said in the mixed zone. As he left the pitch, he had uttered the expletive at full length.

That "sh...", as the veteran described it in order to avoid another verbal derailment in the mixed zone, is the video evidence. For Niederlechner during the 0-0 draw against VfL Osnabrück, the VAR was the source of all evil.

The final phase of the second-division match was a meagre one. A wild scene in midfield caused confusion. Niederlechner ended up hitting opponent Lukas Kunze on the shin. A yellow card, said referee Patrick Ittrich, only to revise his decision after viewing the video footage.

"That's the nonsense about all this video evidence. They look at the still image, then they see that I was on his ankle with my open sole and then they give a red card. That's why nobody needs it, nobody wants it, that was another one of those scenes," said the Hertha attacker. The fact that he had no momentum and no pace in his kick was of no interest when watching on screen, he complained. "Sorry, that's not helpful and that's why everyone hates video evidence," he continued to grumble.

But all the complaining was to no avail. Niederlechner will miss the start of the year for Hertha. It remains to be seen how many games will be added to his mandatory ban for the start of the second half of the season on January 21 against Fortuna Düsseldorf. Niederlechner is hoping for leniency from the DFB judges.

Bitter for the veteran: things were going really well. No goals in his first nine appearances of the season and then six in the last four games. The ex-Augsburg player had found his role as an attacking ten. When he is back, there will be no lack of commitment. Because the goal of returning to the Bundesliga seems possible with a six-point gap to third place.

"I believe that everything is open in the second half of the season. We will step on the gas in the training camp and do everything we can to attack the top. Full attack in the second half of the season," said Niederlechner and said goodbye to the Christmas party with his colleagues.
