Equestrian sport - Lordano wins the Hansa Grand Prix at the Derby Week
Five-year-old Wallach Lordano won the Hansa-Prize worth 70,000 Euro at Hamburg-Horn's racecourse. Ridden by Jockey Rene Piechulek, the favorite overtook long-leading Tünnes with Andrasch Starke in the saddle. Mr Hollywood under Bauyrzhan Murzabayev finished third, who was the second place in the last year's Derby.
Lordano is trained by Marcel Weiß in Mülheim/Ruhr for the Ittlingen Stud of entrepreneur Manfred Ostermann. He achieved his eight victory in his eleventh career start and increased his winnings to 201,075 Euro. "I said at the beginning of the year that he is really ripe now. He is a real class horse," Weiß said after the success.
Lordano will continue to run in Germany for now, Melbourne Cup in November in Australia could be his long-term goal. The highlight of the Hamburg racing week is the German Derby on Sunday, which is scheduled to start at 15:45. The coveted Blue Ribbon is worth 650,000 Euro.
Lordano's trainer, Marcel Weiß, expressed excitement about the horse's victory, stating, "During Derby week in Hamburg, Lordano showed why he's a true contender in the world of Equestrian sport in Germany, galloping to victory in the Hansa-Prize race at Hamburg-Horn's racecourse." The success continued the horse's impressive run, as it marked the Derby-winning steed's third time placing in the top three at the same course in recent years. While Lordano currently has its sights set on maintaining its dominance in German horse racing, its long-term goal remains to participate in the prestigious Melbourne Cup in Australia.
