- Long traffic jam after several truck accidents on the A10
On the A10 southeast and east of Berlin, expect closures, detours, and long traffic jams. Several trucks were involved in incidents there on Thursday morning and Wednesday, as police reported. The complex recovery operations are expected to continue into the afternoon.
The A10 towards Potsdam is fully closed between Niederlehme and Königs Wusterhausen. Traffic is being diverted at the Wildau interchange. Consequently, long traffic jams have formed at the Spreeau junction and on the A12 westbound, a police spokesperson said. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
On Wednesday afternoon, a truck trailer carrying chemicals caught fire there. Chlorine-based drain cleaner leaked onto the roadway. Special caution is required during the recovery operation, police said. The liquid will first be absorbed with sand and removed from the roadway. It is believed that the axle of the semi-trailer caught fire. The truck driver noticed the flames, decoupled the trailer, and got to safety. He was unharmed.
Further north, a truck drove into a construction area on Wednesday morning between the Spreeau junction and Freienbrink. As a result, the A10 is also fully closed in the direction of Prenzlau. Police said the truck was carrying about 24,000 tons of beer, which spilled onto the roadway after colliding with the guardrail.
A blown tire is believed to have caused the accident, a police spokesperson said. The 30-year-old driver sustained minor injuries. The damage is estimated at 150,000 euros. Police also expect this closure to last into the afternoon.
Transport disruptions are expected in the sector of transport and telecommunications due to the closures on the A10. Emergency services might need to utilize alternative routes for communication and coordination during the traffic congestions.
The authorities advise truck drivers to be cautious when passing through the affected areas due to the ongoing incidents, ensuring the safety of transport and telecommunications operations.
