Long-time captain of Eisenach Wartburg Castle dies

Günter Schuchardt, the long-serving captain of Eisenach Wartburg Castle, has died. As the Thuringian State Chancellery announced on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday evening, he died at the age of 69. Schuchardt had worked at Wartburg Castle since 1987 and played a key role in Wartburg Castle being added to the Unesco World Heritage List in 1999.

"Thuringia can count itself lucky that Günter Schuchardt has devoted himself to Wartburg Castle, a unique cultural monument worldwide, with such great expertise and dedication," explained Minister President Bodo Ramelow (Left Party). His decades of work had laid the foundation "for people from Thuringia and all over the world to continue to be captivated by the unique aura of Wartburg Castle in the future." Schuchardt was awarded the Thuringian Order of Merit just last month.

Günter Schuchardt's dedication to Wartburg Castle, a renowned historical monument, has significantly contributed to its global recognition. Visitors from Thuringia and around the world continue to be fascinated by the castle's unique charm, thanks to the extensive work done by Schuchardt.
