Long prison sentences in murder trial over fake sex date in Trier

The court considered it proven that the men had beaten their victim to death in January in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm. The 56-year-old man who was killed had met the two men on the internet while looking for sexual contacts. However, the defendants, who were 20 and 26 years old at the time, only feigned their sexual interest. According to the verdict, their intention was to gain the 56-year-old's trust in order to gain access to valuables in his apartment.

The victim picked up the two men in his car in Remscheid in North Rhine-Westphalia on January 14 and took them to Hersdorf in the Eifel region. There, the 56-year-old was killed from behind in his bathroom by being hit in the head with a lug wrench. The two men then searched the apartment and stole electrical items worth around 600 euros and around 300 euros in cash.

The suspects then tried to leave the scene of the crime in their victim's car. However, the car got stuck in the mud, so they initially fled on foot. They then took a cab to Gerolstein. There they tried to withdraw money from an ATM using the victim's EC card. From Gerolstein, they took public transport back to North Rhine-Westphalia.

The 56-year-old died of a severe traumatic brain injury. He was only found the next day after he failed to turn up for work and the police were informed. As one of the two perpetrators was an adolescent at the time of the crime, the trial took place before the juvenile chamber of Trier Regional Court.
