Long prison sentences for fraud with fictitious corona test centers worth millions

In its verdict announced on Tuesday, the court considered it proven that the two main defendants had faked the operation of ten test stations in Cologne and Langenfeld in spring 2022 and had thus wrongly received more than 16 million euros from the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. They were convicted of serious fraud in up to 25 cases.

The main defendants had succeeded in having large sums reimbursed for alleged corona tests. To do so, they used billing and test numbers of real test centers to deceive the billing office.

In fact, the centers allegedly operated by the defendants, nine of which were located in Cologne and one in Langenfeld, only existed on paper. The men were arrested in a major raid in December 2022 and have been in custody ever since.
