Loneliness: Wüst and researcher present study
North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister President Hendrik Wüst and loneliness researcher Maike Luhmann will present a study on loneliness among young people on Friday. According to previous studies, the coronavirus pandemic has left a clear mark on the population in terms of feelings of loneliness. The analysis now commissioned by the NRW State Chancellery focuses on adolescents and young adults. According to scientific findings, prolonged, chronic loneliness can also lead to physical and mental illness.
In NRW, Head of Government Wüst has repeatedly emphasized that loneliness affects society as a whole. The CDU politician had also called for more attention to be paid to the topic and for it to be removed from the taboo zone in the Düsseldorf state parliament. For some time, the focus has been on loneliness among older people, while the data available on younger people is still rather sparse. The new study is to be presented in Berlin at midday (12.30 p.m.) and the topic will then be discussed in greater depth in a panel discussion.
