Lok Leipzig reaches quarter-finals in the: Out for Chemie
Regional league soccer team 1. FC Lok Leipzig has reached the quarter-finals of the Saxon state cup. Almedin Civa's team recorded an unchallenged 2-0 (2-0) win against FC Eilenburg on Saturday. Local rivals Chemie Leipzig, on the other hand, were eliminated after losing 2-1 (1-0) at VFC Plauen despite taking the lead. VfB Fortuna Chemnitz also reached the quarter-finals after a 5:4 (1:1/0:0) penalty shoot-out win at FC 1910 Lößnitz. Bischofswerdaer FV won 5:0 (2:0) at SG Handwerk Rabenstein.
On Friday evening, third-division side FC Erzgebirge Aue had already scraped through to the next round with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Sachsenliga side SSV Markranstädt. SC Freital advanced to the next round with a 3:1 win against FC Grimma.
- Besides Lok Leipzig, VfB Fortuna Chemnitz also progressed in the Saxony State Cup, securing their place in the quarter-finals with a penalty shootout victory.
- Despite having a strong start, Chemie Leipzig failed to advance past the round of 16 in the Saxony State Cup, losing to VFC Plauen.
