Nuremberg: Legal Proceedings over Wartime Crimes - Lodged appeal over deadly gunshots' verdict
In October 2022, a Turk was found guilty by the local court for shooting at two acquaintances at a cafe after a heated argument. One of them did not survive the injuries, while the other lived due to emergency surgery.
The defendant acknowledged his involvement in the incident but claimed it was in self-defense. He mentioned that the gun went off accidentally during their altercation where he was trying to protect himself and his family. Therefore, the defendant's legal team pushed for a conviction related to weapon offenses instead of murder.
There was a significant commotion in Nuremberg upon the crime's occurrence. During the chilly autumn evening, many people were present in the Nuremberg South area. The gunshots fired at this time were witnessed by a couple walking with a baby stroller. Although there was an extensive search, the suspect managed to escape to Italy. Three months later, a specialized team caught him at a hotel in Rimini, Italy.
