Voting Processes - Local elections counting continues in Brandenburg.

Following the European elections in Brandenburg, where the AfD clinched a decisive win, the parties involved will start analyzing the results in the days to come. René Springer, leader of the AfD in Brandenburg, believes that his party has gained momentum and significant support. He claims that there will be considerable negotiations with them in the future.

Springer believes that the state elections in the fall of this year could also favor the AfD. The party has been labeled a suspected right-wing extremist organization in Brandenburg.

The AfD has registered a victory in Brandenburg for the second time, in the European elections of 2019, and has made noteworthy gains. After the votes from all districts have been counted, the AfD has managed to secure 27.5% of the votes. The CDU, BSW, and SPD stood behind them, respectively.

For the first time in the municipal elections in Brandenburg, the AfD emerged as the leading party, with 25.9% of the votes, counting 4030 of the total 4050 districts. The CDU came in at second with 19.3%, while the SPD had 16.6%. Under the Municipal Election Act, election officials are allowed to extend the voting count and continue it the next day. For instance, the Landkreis Havelland announced that they would break off the count and resume it on Monday.

In 2015, the CDU had claimed victory in Brandenburg with only 18.3%, followed by the SPD with 17.7%. The AfD had secured 15.9% of the votes at the time, placing them third, and the Left had obtained 14.1%. The Greens only managed 11.1%.

Around 2.1 million voters turned out for the European and municipal elections in Brandenburg. There has been a higher voter turnout than in 2019, which was 59.5% in the region.
