After the assault on Green Party representative Marie Kollenrott in Göttingen took place, the city council and administration have spoken out against it and expressed their support for the legislator. "We are all advocates for a democratic and unified Europe. There is no place in Göttingen, Germany, or Europe for attacks on individuals like Marie Kollenrott, who strive for the common good," said a joint statement from the council and administration, published by the city on Monday.
The attack on Kollenrott occurred during a campaign event in the Göttingen city center on Saturday. A male individual repeatedly punched Kollenrott in the upper body. The 39-year-old sustained injuries to one arm. Police apprehended the suspected perpetrator, a 66-year-old guy, not long after the incident near the crime scene. The state security agency is looking into the situation as a possible political crime.
