Extremism - LKA: More political crimes on social networks

The State Criminal Police Office (LKA) in North Rhine-Westphalia has registered significantly more politically motivated crimes in social networks. As the LKA told the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper and confirmed in response to a dpa inquiry, 268 politically motivated hate crime offenses were reported in 2023. In the previous year as a whole, the number of offenses was 192, meaning that the previous year's level has already been significantly exceeded.

The majority of the crimes are therefore committed by right-wing political groups - 209 of the 268 crimes are attributed to the right-wing milieu. Incitement to hatred is the most frequent accusation (201 in total, 174 from right-wing milieus), insults (16) and the dissemination of propaganda material of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations (19) also play a role. These are provisional figures.
