Weapons manufacturing field - Lithuanian authority: Rheinmetall to infuse 180 million euros

Armonaite mentioned the upcoming establishment of Rheinmetall as a significant move to fulfill Lithuania's urgent defense and security requirements: "This will assist us in maintaining a steady flow of vital weapons and ammunition." Besides, a full-time mechanized brigade of the Bundeswehr is set to be deployed in Lithuania.

Reports suggest that the site of the facility, recognized as a vital project in the Lithuanian-German NATO ally country, will be revealed soon. However, no details about the facility's groundbreaking have been disclosed.

In mid-March, Rheinmetall revealed their plans for building an artillery manufacturing plant in Lithuania. By mid-April, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Lithuanian government. Shortly thereafter, the Lithuanian parliament approved changes to laws that speed up and streamline investments, including from weapons manufacturers.

Rheinmetall's CEO, Armin Papperger, expressed his gratitude for the longstanding partnership with Lithuania. "This collaboration further strengthens our position as a cornerstone for delivering both domestic and international security solutions."

Rheinmetall is already working in Lithuania, running a maintenance center alongside Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) since summer 2022. At this location, the combat vehicles of NATO troops in the region and the German-donated Leopard 2 combat tanks for Ukraine are kept in working condition.
