Lindner comments on the budget dispute over traffic light coalition: "We haven't landed our deal yet"

Let's ramp up the willingness of workers to take on business risks and boost entrepreneurial ventures, argues Lindner. Else, economically, we're stuck in a never-ending rut. The government needs to concentrate on its key duties and steer clear of meddling in everything under the sun. Finding our focus, we can intensify efforts on crucial projects such as education, digitalization, infrastructure, and security.

In contrast, SPD chair Saskia Esken insists on substantial investments and slams Lindner's approach as a historical blunder in "Tagesspiegel." According to "Süddeutsche Zeitung," she considers Lindner's strategy misguided. In response to "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung," Lindner asserts that we've boosted social benefits by 13 billion Euros since 2022, hence there's no question of trimming back on the social sector; instead, it's time to beef it up.

Given the stagnant economic growth, we can't carry on as usual, states the Finance Minister further. "Even Ms. Esken should admit that wealth must be generated before it can be shared," he adds.

The annual budget plan is due for approval in the Federal Cabinet on July 3, with an estimated deficit of approximately 25 billion Euros. Lindner is pressing for substantial reductions in various ministry budgets, particularly from the Social Ministry. Simultaneously, he rejects the demands of coalition partners for loosening the stringent debt control measures.
