Torrential downpour unfolds. - Lifting of truck bans due to flooding
To aid in the relief and cleanup efforts due to the recent flood, certain truck driving restrictions in Bavaria have been removed until the end of July. This includes the suspension of the Sunday and public holiday driving ban, as well as the driving ban after the vacation travel ordinance for trucks weighing over 7.5 tons. The Interior Ministry announced this news on a Thursday.
Bavaria's Interior Minister, Joachim Herrmann (CSU), stated, "With the flood being as catastrophic as it is, it's crucial to ensure the residents in affected areas have access to supplies. Additionally, speeding up the removal of damage is essential. The lifting of the Sunday and public holiday driving ban for these types of trucks helps in this effort."
Tensions remained high on Thursday, particularly in Regensburg, between Kelheim and Passau. The Swabian and Upper Bavarian flood districts are still yet to reach normalcy. The Interior Ministry reported the disappearance of three individuals following the flood. Moreover, the German Weather Service (DWD) warned that the southern region of Bavaria may be in danger of more intense rainfall.
