Car accident - Life-threateningly injured 14-year-old left behind

Four car occupants are said to have left a 14-year-old seriously injured and unconscious in the car after an accident in Moers on the Lower Rhine. According to initial findings, the car left the road for an unexplained reason and crashed into two trees, police and the public prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday.

During the night, emergency services were alerted via the emergency call function of a smartphone and came across the completely destroyed car, in which they found the 14-year-old. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The investigators found empty bottles of alcoholic beverages in the car. According to the investigation, a 17-year-old had been at the wheel of the car.

Near the scene of the accident, the police first came across an 18-year-old who was covered in blood but uninjured. He is said to have been a passenger in the car involved in the accident. The officers later found two slightly injured 17 and 18-year-olds in a hospital, who were able to leave the clinic after treatment.

According to the police, the suspected driver was initially on the run. Officers found him at his parents' home in Kamp-Lintfort at midday. How the 17-year-old, who was uninjured, got hold of the car is still being investigated. He is initially suspected of negligent bodily harm and driving without a license.
