Population - Life expectancy of newborns in Saxony-Anhalt has fallen
The life expectancy of newborn boys and girls in Saxony-Anhalt has recently fallen. It averages 82.3 years for girls and 75.8 years for boys, the State Statistical Office announced in Halle on Thursday on the basis of the 2020/22 mortality table. Compared to the previous calculations from the 2019/21 mortality table, the life expectancy of girls fell by around four months and that of boys by around five months. This was the second decline in a row.
Nationwide, life expectancy for newborn girls was 83.2 years and 78.3 years for boys. This was also below the values of the 2019/21 mortality table, when the figures were 83.4 and 78.5 years.

The decline in life expectancy is not unique to Saxony-Anhalt, as nationwide, newborn girls have a life expectancy of 83.2 years and boys have 78.3 years, both figures also lower than the values from the 2019/21 mortality table. Analyzing population statistics, it's evident that the life expectancy in Saxony-Anhalt is lower than the national average.
