Leverkusen extends contract with Rolfes
Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen have extended the contract with sporting director Simon Rolfes. The 41-year-old's new contract runs until 2028, as the Rhinelander announced on Tuesday. Former national team player and Bayer professional Rolfes took over the position as successor to Rudi Völler in the summer of 2022. He had previously been sports director at Bayer 04.
"Simon Rolfes has understood in a special way how to combine his experience and qualities as a player with the demands of management in modern professional soccer," Werner Wenning, Chairman of the Shareholders' Committee, was quoted as saying in a club statement. "He is characterized by a high level of technical expertise and an excellent eye for talent in the global market, but also by enormous diligence and the unmistakable Bayer 04 DNA."
Bayer Leverkusen, currently leading in the Bundesliga, has the advantage of having Simon Rolfes as their sporting director until 2028, who took over from Rudi Völler in the summer of 2022. Despite his new role, Rolfes, a former national team player and Bayer professional, still maintained his passion for soccer with Bayer Leverkusen's first team, including their Bundesliga matches.
