Based on Büchner's account, the special forces let loose 19 rounds, a majority of which struck the 46-year-old. The postmortem examination revealed at least 12 bullets within his body.
The source of the weapon remains a mystery. The Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office recognized it as a powerful pneumatic revolver capable of inflicting lethal damage at close range. The subject was mentally unstable and under supervision. His guardian reportedly denied his plea for funds to purchase a weapon in the past. "The origin of the weapon and the funds for it is now under investigation," Büchner stated.

Law enforcement identified him using CCTV footage, as remarked by Büchner. Since he refused to open the door, the special forces broke it down.
