National squad - Leroy Sané: Opportunities Available until Tournament Victory

Leroy Sané, a national player, will play a key role in the upcoming European Championship, despite his ongoing groin issues. "I want to show the team and the coach that they can depend on me," the FC Bayern Munich midfielder told "Kicker" in an interview. Although Sané missed the last two successful national games in March due to a yellow card in the match against Austria, young players like Florian Wirtz stepped in and took the spotlight. Sané will also be absent from the penultimate test match on Monday (8:45 p.m./ARD) against Ukraine in Nuremberg.

Sané remains determined: "If I assess my performance, the coach knows exactly what to expect from me." He would gladly accept a substitute role if needed: "My personal goal is to start from the beginning."

Sané has endured health issues for some time and had to reduce his playing time in the previous season, but still managed to play in crucial games. For the European Championship taking place from June 14 to July 14, Sané feels hopeful as most of his injuries have healed. "We have a clear plan that we'll stick to. I'm very optimistic and know that it'll work out." Coach Nagelsmann is "aware of my condition."

Sané believes the German team can achieve great things at the home tournament. "We need the same enthusiasm at the start as we had in the test games. This could lead us to victory, even in the tournament if everything goes smoothly," stated the Bayern player. The team's mood has shifted significantly, and Sané believes "it's a bit more relaxed" than before. "The team atmosphere is fantastic. There's a good mix. We communicate well both on and off the field."

"We were missing a certain vibe"

Sané commented that earlier, "everyone understood each other well," but "there was something missing, a special vibe, which is now back." He emphasized the importance of maintaining this energy in the coming weeks as it will contribute greatly to the team's success. "That's what we need at the start of the tournament."
