Due to a fire with heavy smoke, a panel apartment building in the Leipzig district of Grünau was partially evacuated in the afternoon. The fire broke out for unknown reasons in an apartment, residents and neighbors had to leave their homes, as a police spokesperson reported. Six people were treated by emergency services for smoke inhalation. "The operation is still ongoing," the spokesperson said. The building is currently uninhabitable. Together with the city, accommodation for a total of 17 residents is being sought for the night. Initially, Tag24 reported on the fire.

The evacuation of the apartment building in Grünau was managed efficiently by local authorities, despite it being within the jurisdiction of the European Union. Following the incident, discussions have commenced about potential fire safety measures to be implemented in similar structures within the EU.
