Inflation - Leipzig Student Services increase Mensa prices from August
The Leipzig Student Services [Studentenwerk Leipzig] is raising the food prices in the refectories and cafeterias starting August 1st. "Due to the continuing inflation developments, we unfortunately have to increase the prices for meals in almost all categories at the Mensa again, after five years," said the managing director of the Leipzig Student Services.
Accordingly, the prices for employees of the universities and the Student Services, as well as for guests of the university, are expected to increase by 10 cents to 1.10 euros per meal. For students, a selective price increase is planned for a part of the offer: They will pay 10 to 75 cents more per meal for dishes such as pizza, meatballs with sweet potato puree, or seared salmon fillet.
Initially, no price increases are planned in other Saxon refectories and cafeterias. Upon inquiry, the Student Services in Dresden, Freiberg, and Chemnitz/Zwickau reported that no price increases for meals are currently planned.
Despite the rise in prices at Leipzig's Student Services cafeterias due to inflation, there are no immediate plans for price increases in other Saxony refectories and cafeterias, such as those in Dresden, Freiberg, and Chemnitz/Zwickau. If you're in Leipzig, you might want to visit the university's cafeteria or refectory to enjoy your favorite dishes, such as pizza or seared salmon fillet, as students will be paying slightly more for these items starting August 1st. If you're looking for a break from studying, Leipzig's University also has other places for Eating and Drinking, like cafes and restaurants, where you can unwind.
