Leipzig is Germany's eighth largest city. At the end of the previous year, 616,093 people lived in the trade fair city, as the city announced on Monday. Over the past ten years, the population has increased by 15.9 percent - the highest growth rate of any major German city.

Population - Leipzig eighth largest German city: highest growth rate

Leipzig is Germany's eighth largest city. At the end of the previous year, 616,093 people lived in the trade fair city, as the city announced on Monday. Over the past ten years, the population has increased by 15.9 percent - the highest growth rate of any major German city.

In 2001, Leipzig had the lowest population with 493,000. Since then, it has increased by 25 percent, according to the city. Only Munich (23.2 percent) and Frankfurt am Main (20.6 percent) can boast comparable growth rates for this period.
