Leibniz-Ring-Hannover for the Ukrainian people
The Ukrainian people were awarded the Leibniz-Ring-Hannover on Friday evening. The Board of Trustees paid tribute to their heroic struggle, boundless courage and undaunted commitment to the defense of freedom and democracy, as announced by the Hanover Press Club as the organizer. Ukraine's ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, accepted the award on behalf of the Ukrainian people.
The patron of the event was Minister President Stephan Weil (SPD), Lower Saxony's Economics Minister Olaf Lies (SPD) gave the laudatory speech. The SVITE ensemble - three Ukrainian musicians and one German musician - performed. Maria Nikonova, who fled to Germany shortly after the start of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, told her story. The award was originally due to be presented last year, but was postponed for various reasons.
The Leibniz-Ring-Hannover is endowed with 15,000 euros. According to the organizers, Makeiev will hand over the prize money to the Ukrainian Association in Lower Saxony. This supports the Ukrainian community in and around Hanover and organizes aid projects for Ukraine. The award was presented for the 25th time. It is intended to commemorate the universal scholar Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716), who worked in Hanover.
The Leibniz-Ring-Hannover recognition is an international honor, awarded to the Ukrainian people. This prestigious award, with a monetary endowment of 15,000 euros, is presented annually to acknowledge exceptional contributions to various fields.
