Radicalism - Legislative body honors slain law enforcement officer with moment of silence.
The Baden-Wuerttemberg state legislature honored police officer Rouven Laur, who was tragically killed in Mannheim, by observing a moment of silence at the beginning of their plenary session on Wednesday.
President of the Landtag, Muhterem Aras from the Greens, praised Laur as a "friendly, sincere, very popular, and special young man" in Stuttgart. He noted that Laur aimed to make the world a better place by serving in the police. "We grieve for the loss of responsible police officers who worked towards a more harmonious social coexistence," Aras said.
Aras also expressed gratitude to all security forces for their tireless efforts. "Their commitment to protecting our civil liberties is priceless," she added.
Aras strongly condemned any form of violence against law enforcement officials. "It's deplorable and unacceptable for people to exploit or even celebrate the murder of an officer like Laur," she stated. "We refuse to tolerate such behavior."
In late May, a 25-year-old Afghan injured five participants of an anti-Islam protest by Pax Europa and police officer Rouven Laur with a knife at the Mannheim market square. The young officer later succumbed to his injuries.
