The politician Henriette Quade from the left-wing faction got hurt by the cops, according to her party, when she tried to register a spontaneous protest against antisemitism in the city center of Halle. Quade experienced bruising on her chest and lower back, the group proclaimed on Friday. The politician was forcefully brought to the ground by the cops when she attempted to sign up the unexpected demonstration, they explained.
The police acknowledged the incident when they were questioned. Around 6:20 p.m., police officers drove back attendees of a gathering who seemed to be preventing the route of yet another gathering. Medical assistance was offered, but it was denied right away."
Subsequent to this, the state legislator filed a criminal complaint against the police for suspected harm in office. Investigations were begun, it was mentioned.
Fraktion chief Eva von Angern declared: "I'm appalled by the unlawful police violence toward our legislative representative." Von Angern requested an immediate investigation of the cops' operation by the Interior Ministry and the responsible legal authorities.
"As part of the currently initiated investigation, the situation will indeed be meticulously probed and cleared up," said Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU) of the dpa. The investigation was not directed at police officers from Saxony-Anhalt, the Interior Ministry underlined. Based on the info from the left faction, Quade was approached by police officers from Berlin.
"Besides the criminal complaint, I'm currently reviewing, with legal aid, another legal action against the cops who carried out the operation on Thursday," Quade said.
