Left in state parliament: "offensive" for social housing construction
The Left Party in the state parliament is calling for a state offensive for social housing construction in Saxony. To this end, funding guidelines are to be simplified and a fund of 250 million euros set up, as MP Juliane Nagel explained in Dresden on Thursday. "We are calling for a permanent social housing segment in public and non-profit hands." Private actors should not be subsidized for temporary social interim use. According to the Left Party, social housing should remain for this purpose for 25 years. Numerous social housing units would be lost because the commitment would end, criticized Nagel. According to the data, there were still 11,500 social housing units left in Saxony in 2017, compared to 134,000 ten years earlier. "Since then, things have only been going up very slowly - to 12,500 units at the end of 2022."
The Left Party's housing policy proposals include setting up a fund for social housing construction, aiming to create a permanent social housing segment that remains in public and non-profit hands. This is in response to the loss of numerous social housing units due to temporary use by private actors, as criticized by MP Juliane Nagel.
