State elections - Left in Saxony receives election aid from Animal Protection Party
The Saxon Left receives support from the Party for Human, Environment, and Animal Protection (Animal Protection Party) for the state election on September 1st. Although not formally approved for the Saxon election, the Animal Protection Party has now issued a voting recommendation in favor of the Left and their top candidate, Susanne Schaper.
Previously, the Animal Protection Party had analyzed the programs of other parties. "Only the Greens and the Left have detailed proposals on how to reduce animal suffering and exploitation," they stated in a press release. However, both parties' positions on animal rights are still in their early stages.
Animal Protection Party: Left needs every vote
"The Left is urgently needed in the Saxon state parliament and is dependent on every vote," emphasized Marcel Krohn, co-chairman of the Animal Protection Party. "Those who see social justice, societal diversity, and consistent support for human rights as essential pillars of political decisions, but also want actual progress in environmental and animal protection, could therefore usefully vote for Susanne Schaper in this Saxon state election," the press release stated.
Schaper thanked the support. "The support of the Animal Protection Party confirms that we can continue to fight together for animal rights and animal protection in the next Saxon state parliament," she said.
The Animal Protection Party received 1.4 percent of the votes in Saxony for the European election in 2024. It belongs to the same faction, "The Left," as the Left in the European Parliament. The Left is currently polling just below the five percent threshold for the state election. They would only re-enter the parliament with their list if they win two direct mandates. In the 2019 state election, the Left received 10.4 percent, and the Animal Protection Party received 1.5 percent.
The Animal Protection Party praised Susanne Schaper for her commitment to animal rights, stating that her election in Dresden would significantly contribute to advancing animal protection in Saxony. Recognizing the Left's need for support to secure a seat in the Saxon state parliament, the Animal Protection Party urged its supporters to vote for Schaper in Dresden.
