National policy - Left in favor of including protection of Jewish life in the constitution
The Northern Church's call for the protection of Jewish life to be included in the state constitution of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is echoed in state politics. "We expressly support this proposal," explained the state chairman of the Left Party, Peter Ritter, on Thursday.
The coalition agreement with the SPD states that the state parliament wants to advocate an amendment to the state constitution "in order to express the state goal of consistently suppressing racist, anti-Semitic and neo-national socialist aspirations". In the view of the Left, it is high time to initiate this discussion process in parliament.
Kristina Kühnbaum-Schmidt, Bishop of the Evangelical-Lutheran North Church, referred to the actions of neighboring federal states on the occasion of the beginning of the Jewish Hanukkah festival on Thursday. She praised the efforts being made in Schleswig-Holstein. In Hamburg, the fight against racism and anti-Semitism was included in the constitution as a state objective in the spring.
