Leading contenders place their ballots

Prominent contenders from significant political parties participated in the state election voting process on Sunday. Information regarding their voting locations.

In Thuringia, various individuals, including notable election contenders from significant parties, headed to voting booths for the Landtag election.cdu's Mario Voigt began the proceedings, casting his vote alongside his spouse in Jena on a Sunday morning.

Erfurt saw the wife of incumbent Minister-President and The Left's main candidate, Bodo Ramelow, join him at the polling station. Alongside his wife and their three-year-old daughter, SPD's Interior Minister Georg Maier also voted in the state capital.

In Bornhagen, far-right AfD figurehead Björn Höcke exercised his right to vote in his hometown within the Eichsfeld district.

Eisenach welcomed Katja Wolf, former mayor and current leading candidate for the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), who voted for the first time in a Thuringian Landtag election. The BSW is making its entrance into state politics.

Thomas Kemmerich, FDP's former Minister-President for a short stint in 2020, exercised his right to vote in the historic city of Weimar. Meanwhile, the two prominent Green party leaders voted in different locations: Madeleine Henfling, a member of the state parliament, voted with her family in Ilmenau, while Environment Minister Bernhard Stengele voted in Erfurt, accompanied by his own family.

In the political landscape of Thuringia, the CDU, specifically Mario Voigt, played a role in the Landtag election.Despite being a significant party in Thuringia, the CDU's presence was not limited to Mario Voigt, as other CDU members also participated in the voting process.
