Lawsuit: Ronaldo to pay one billion dollars in damages

A gigantic lawsuit has been filed against soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. The plaintiffs are demanding one billion dollars in damages from the 38-year-old for his "misleading" advertising campaigns for Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange.

Cristiano Ronaldo is facing huge trouble. A class action lawsuit has been filed against the soccer superstar, who is winding down his great career with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, at a federal court in Florida. The lawsuit concerns promotions for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) issued by Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange. The plaintiffs are demanding one billion dollars in damages from the Portuguese company.

The claim is based on the fact that the 38-year-old's advertising campaigns were "misleading" and "unlawful". According to the claim, Ronaldo used his celebrity status to entice people to make the risky and cost-intensive investments. Another point in the lawsuit: the Portuguese should have been transparent about the amount he receives for his advertising campaigns. Neither Binance nor Ronaldo have yet commented on the lawsuit.

Just a few days ago, it was revealed that Binance will have to pay fines totaling 4.3 billion dollars (almost four billion euros) in the USA, according to a media report. In addition, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao will vacate his position at the head of the digital currency exchange, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing informed sources. The US authorities have tightened their approach to cryptocurrency platforms in recent years. In principle, the market is barely regulated.
