Law enforcement urges restraint following stabbing incident on a bus in Siegen
The individual apparently attacked numerous passengers on a bus in Siegen-Eiserfeld on a Friday night, leaving six people wounded, with three of them suffering severe injuries. Law enforcement and the prosecutor's office revealed no hints of a political or religious motivation behind the incident. However, they did indicate potential signs of prior psychological instability in the female suspect, as reported by AFP.
The victims are reportedly aged between 16 and 30, hailing from the Siegen-Wittgenstein district. The bus was en route to a city celebration, carrying approximately 30 other passengers.
North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Minister, Herbert Reul (CDU), advocated for unity following the assault. He spoke to WDR, stressing the importance of maintaining harmony by avoiding fear and retribution, instead choosing to remain resilient and support one another. He was already scheduled to visit the city festival in the area.
Exactly a week prior, three lives were tragically lost and eight others were significantly hurt in a knife-related attack at a city celebration in Solingen. The prime suspect, a 26-year-old Syrian national, was apprehended. The Federal Prosecutor's Office suspects a connection to an Islamist ideology. This incident ignited a discussion about potential deportations and a knife ban.
The incident was investigated by the authorities, including the Office of the Prosecutor, to determine the circumstances of the attack. After the assault, North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Minister reiterated the importance of unity and called for support among the community, mentioning his planned visit to the city festival.
