Law enforcement authorities report three fatalities and four individuals left critically wounded following a knife assault in Solingen.
The authorities are labeling this event as a "act of terrorism," according to the police spokesperson. Previously, Solingen's mayor, Tim Kurzbach, posted on the city's Facebook page that there were "nine casualties and wounded," with several still in a critical condition, fighting for their lives. "Tonight, we're all reeling in Solingen, filled with shock, horror, and deep mourning," Kurzbach wrote. "It breaks my heart to see that our city has become a target of such an attack."
One of the organizers of the "Diversity Festival" city event stepped onto the stage to announce its cancellation. They reported that emergency services were putting in their best efforts to save the lives of nine individuals. Festival-goers were advised to vacate the city center.
WDR reported that the "police" had set off an alarm. The skies were filled with helicopters, "roadblocks scattered around the city," and the situation remained ambiguous.
The organizers of the Diversity Festival urged people to follow the instructions of the police due to the ongoing situation. As the police intensified their efforts, roadblocks became more common in the city.
