- Law enforcement authorities are currently examining potential hazards situated on railroad lines.
Law enforcement agencies, specifically the Federal Police, are currently probing into an unidentified individual for potentially harmful disruption of railway operations. This comes after hefty tree branches were placed on tracks in North Baden, forcing an express train to activate its emergency brakes. Fortunately, no passengers sustained injuries during this incident on Monday. As per a public information officer, these branches became stuck below the train. The incident involved a cargo train, as reported by Deutsche Bahn.
Authorities believe that these tree branches were strategically placed upon the tracks as they were spotted at two distinct locations, separated by a distance of 10 to 15 meters. The Federal Police in Karlsruhe are calling for any witnesses who might have noticed anything unusual near Oftersheim, Heidelberg, during Monday evening. Regrettably, no suspect description is available at this juncture, the spokesperson relayed.
The railway route linking Schwetzingen and Hockenheim was temporarily blocked in both directions. Around 8:00 PM, the Federal Police officially announced via X that the road was open again. The mishap with the cargo train occurred around 6:30 PM, as per the railway spokesperson.
High-speed trains, ICE, on the line connecting Kiel or Hamburg to Basel and vice versa were diverted via Bruchsal, the spokesperson revealed. S-bahn trains made an early halt in Schwetzingen or Hockenheim before resuming their journeys.
The railway route between Schwetzingen and Hockenheim encountered temporary disruptions due to the placement of tree branches on the tracks. Authorities are investigating this incident, as it also occurred on the same line that connects Hockenheim to other locations.
