Law enforcement association issues caution amidst rumors following Solingen incident

According to Mertens, there's still no clear identification of the assailant. The descriptions from witnesses are inconsistent in some areas. He stated, "That's not necessarily unexpected, folks are still in a state of shock following the ordeal." Mertens emphasized the need for the cops to work undisturbed now.

Mertens also advised against speculating on a potential motive. "We need to sort everything out first and capture the bastard before we can speculate about their reasonings," he told the "Rheinische Post." As of now, all we have is the body count, the severity of injuries, and the knife-related incident, Mertens added.

On a Friday night, an unidentified individual went on a rampage with a knife at a city festival in Solingen's heart. As per police reports, three people lost their lives, and by Saturday morning, eight more sustained injuries, five of them serious. The attacker is still on the loose, and the police are giving it their all to track him down.

Mertens reiterated the importance of focusing on capturing the attacker, stating, "We need to find the individual responsible for the attack before we can delve into their intentions." Despite the lack of information about the motive, the investigation into the knife-related incident continues at full speed.
