- Law enforcement association advocates for augmented workforce:
The Police Union (GdP) is urging the Lower Saxony state administration to allot extra finances for the law enforcement in the 2025 financial plan. As per the existing blueprint, the law enforcement is merely categorized under "Various," pointed out GdP state leader Kevin Komolka: "Nevertheless, the main concern of the Lower Saxony police force remains unaddressed: We require more personnel in the law enforcement sector."
Although the quantity of law enforcers in Lower Saxony has never been greater, hundreds of officers are now dealing with tasks that could potentially be managed by civil service and administrative workforce. Consequently, GdP is advocating for an extra 200 roles in administration and civil service to facilitate more police officers to, for instance, secure events and perform patrols.
Additionally, at least 50 additional roles for IT specialists are indispensable for digital investigations to thwart threats, as well as broadened authority for security agencies, such as data access. "Law enforcement agencies and domestic spy units are still frequently bogged down - even in circumstances where we could be more proactive," stated Komolka.
The request for additional finances from the Lower Saxony state administration by the Police Union (GdP) is crucial for enhancing law enforcement in Lower Saxony. Despite a record number of law enforcers in Lower Saxony, the demand for more personnel in the law enforcement sector remains unmet.
