- Law Enforcement Agency Affirms Discovery of Explosive Device in Halle
Following a suspected bomb finding in April at a Halle apartment building, fresh details have surfaced in the case. A representative from the Halle prosecution spoke to the German Press Agency, stating that based on a report from the State Criminal Police Office, the discovered explosive was homemade. This corresponds with the previous report by the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung."
The alleged bomb constructor was a 36-year-old man at the time of discovery. The spokesperson maintained that it was presumed that he had intended to employ the bomb for right-wing extremist activities. However, the investigation is yet to be fully concluded.
According to the report by the State Criminal Police Office, the bomb was concealed within a silver suitcase and consisted of an electrical radio trigger, pyrotechnic materials, a fire extinguisher, and shattered glass. In total, the explosive device weighed seven kilograms, as reported by the prosecution.
Eyewitnesses reported to the police in early April that a man from a multi-dwelling unit was uttering racist slurs and threatening bystanders with a rifle. This resulted in a massive police operation, leading to more than 50 residents being evacuated from their homes.
However, it was later established that the man's weapon was merely a toy gun. The police officers found him intoxicated and took him into custody. As per the prosecution, he remains in detention.
As soon as the investigation concludes, the prosecution will decide whether to press charges against the suspect, the spokesperson confirmed.
The case involving the suspected bomb in Halle is being handled by The Office of the Prosecutor. They will make a decision on pressing charges against the suspect once the investigation is concluded.
The Halle investigation is being managed by The Office of the Prosecutor, who are working closely with the State Criminal Police Office and the local prosecution.
