- Lautern will shoot the game in Ulm for the opening debut

Markus Anfang made a successful debut as trainer of 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The FCK won 2:1 (0:0) in the first matchday of the 2. Bundesliga against promoted SSV Ulm.

Lautern's Boris Tomiak from the penalty spot (77.) and Aaron Opoku (83.) turned the game after Ulm went ahead through Felix Higl in front of 17,400 spectators at the Donaustadion. "I think we also deserved to win," Anfang said on TV station Sky.

The first minutes belonged to the Red Devils. However, they didn't make enough of their advantages. Ulm's goalkeeper Christian Ortag saved against Marlon Ritter after half an hour in what was probably the best chance for FCK. "I think we played a really good game," Anfang emphasized. But also SSV worked their way into the game after a passive start.

Lautern with late double strike

After the break, FCK made the first claims again: Opoku missed a counter chance (47.). Almost immediately afterwards, Higl presented himself alone in front of Lautern's goalkeeper Julian Krahl and scored the somewhat lucky lead for SSV.

But FCK still had enough time. They needed the help of the video assistant first. Only after his intervention, referee Robert Schröder decided on a penalty. Tomiak converted it safely and only six minutes later Opoku scored. "We took three points. That's what counts," said scorer Opoku, who showed relief after the opening win.

SSV Ulm's goalkeeper, Christian Ortag, made a vital save to keep Ulm in the game during the first half, denying a chance from Lautern's Marlon Ritter. After the match, Markus Anfang, the trainer of 1. FC Kaiserslautern, praised his team's performance, stating that they played a really good game against SSV Ulm.
