Bundesliga 2 - Lautern managing director on change of coach: "Tough days"
At the annual general meeting of 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Sunday, managing director Thomas Hengen also commented on the change of coach at the second division soccer club. His originally planned speech had become obsolete due to the events of the past few days. "The last week was very emotional and intense. After weighing up all the impressions, we came to the decision to let Dirk Schuster and Sascha Franz go," said the 49-year-old.
Hengen spoke of a process that led to the separation: "We were not satisfied with the points scored, nor with the basic virtues such as the running performance." In addition, other things were no longer right. To the applause of the members, Hengen expressly thanked Schuster and Franz for their work. New head coach Dimitrios Grammozis, who was confirmed by the club on Sunday, was not personally present at the meeting, but was already training with his new team on the pitch. "It's been a very tough few days, but we've got through them properly and were able to announce the signing today. It's important that we already have the new impetus on the bench on Tuesday," emphasized Hengen. The Palatinate will then host league rivals 1 FC Nürnberg in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup at the Fritz Walter Stadium (18:00/Sky and ARD).
